Versions Affected
NextGen® KBM v.8.1 to 8.1.7
The Issue
NextGen Healthcare has identified an issue on the templates that contain the
Alerts button in which the exclamation point is not displayed after alerts have been selected.
This does not allow a color-blind user to determine if there are any alerts on the patient’s chart.
Example
In this example, the user creates a new patient or opens an existing patient and creates a new
encounter.
The user navigates to the
Intake template and selects a specialty and visit type.
The user clicks the
Alerts button to launch the
Add Alert pop-up template and adds an alert.
The user clicks
Save & Close to close the template.
The user sees the
Alerts button has changed from grey to red but the exclamation point is not displayed.

Actions Required Until this issue is fixed, users should click the Alerts button to view the contents of the Add Alerts pop-up template.
Users can also add an exclamation point in the Template Editor that will appear when alerts are present:
- Using Template Editor, follow the detailed instructions in the Maintaining a Default Database document found here.
- Do not modify NextGen Healthcare templates.
Follow the instructions outlined in the Maintaining a Default Database document.
- A custom version of each template must be created to reference the new button icon.
- Open the template to be modified in the Template Editor.
- Create the new label by selecting the Label icon from the toolbar and dragging it to the position where it should be displayed on the template workspace.
In this case, it should be positioned over the Alerts button in the upper right side of the template.

- Once the label is positioned on the template, the Insert a Label dialog box will appear.
The user enters the exclamation point into the Caption field on the General tab and selects the Hidden check box.

- On the Font and Color tab, enter “14” into the Font Size field, select “white” as the Text Color and click OK.

- To control the display of the newly created label, the triggers on the field must be adjusted.
Select Fields List from the View menu on the main menu toolbar to display the primary fields list on the right side of the Template Editor.
- Right-click on the master_im_.chk_alerts_data_present field to launch the Triggers dialog box.
- Select the master_im_.chk_alerts_data_present - Show Item field to launch the Trigger Info dialog box.

- Select the button next to the Parameter field to launch the Show Template Field dialog box.
- Select the newly created Label that contains the exclamation point and click OK.

- From the Triggers dialog box, select the master_im_.chk_alerts_data_present - Hide Item field to launch the Trigger Info dialog box.

- Select the button next to the Parameter field to launch the Hide Template Field dialog box.
- Select the newly created Label that contains the exclamation point and click OK.
